about me

Jenn is an educational consultant, best-selling author, and professional speaker. As owner of FutureWise Consulting for the past 15 years, she has guided hundreds of high school students from throughout the United States through all aspects of the college admission process. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the Honors College at UCLA and her master’s degree from USC, where she was elected to the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and named Dean's Scholar. Jenn earned her College Counseling Certificate from UCLA. She is a Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). Jenn is also a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA) and the Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC).

Jenn's book, The Parent Compass: Navigating Your Teen's Wellness and Academic Journey in Today's Competitive World, was released in September 2020. It is a best seller and was featured on Katie Couric's list of the 11 Books Every Parent Should Read for Fall 2021. Book Authority named it the #1 Best New Parenting Audiobook to Read in 2021, #5 of the Best New Parenting Books to Read in 2021, and one of the Top 100 Best Parenting Books of All Time.

Jenn has been interviewed on a wide variety of television news programs, radio shows, podcasts,  and print and digital media including Good Housekeeping magazine and US News & World Report



She speaks professionally to parent organizations and schools about education, college admission, and parenting. She developed a college and career readiness program for first-generation students that has been implemented in a local elementary school for over 10 years. She has served as the Director of Grant Writing for an international university. In addition, she was the editorial assistant for an academic journal, edited several books, and coached graduate and doctoral students in developing effective writing skills. Such experience allows her to help her students grasp all aspects of the college-going process and develop their unique voices as they present themselves to colleges.



Jenn has an incredible ability to listen and provide thoughtful feedback, making her easily relatable to students. She has a proven track record of adeptly guiding students and their families through uncertain times with outstanding results. Her passion lies in helping students navigate the often difficult transition from high school to college and empowering them to find the motivation to reach their potential. Jenn regularly attends professional conferences and tours college campuses, and she commits a great deal of time to research and staying up to date on the latest education and college admission trends.

 

Jenn resides in San Clemente, California with her husband and two daughters.

EMILY FORD, MA

Emily Ford holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from UCLA and a Masters of Arts in Education from Loyola Marymount University. Emily taught elementary education for six years in Los Angeles prior to becoming a full-time tutor and homeschool teacher for 6th to 12th-grade students.

 

Emily is passionate about the writing process and believes that writing a personal statement can be joyful and fun. By fostering authentic connections, Emily helps students identify and realize their core values and insights. Emily works to help students see patterns and themes in their experiences that serve as a springboard for writing powerful narratives. Through brainstorming, writing, and re-writing, Emily works with students to convey their personalities, creativity, and reflections in order to create outstanding college essays.      

 

Outside of teaching and tutoring Emily is involved in her community. Emily is a founding board member of a systems-change non-profit focused on early education and care called Neighborhood Villages. Emily is the founding chair of the Carver-Carson Society, a group advancing sustainable food practices at The Henry Ford Museum, in Detroit. Emily sits on the board of trustees of City Year Detroit, Starfish Family Services, the Detroit Public Schools Foundation, and 826 Michigan. 

 

Emily and her husband have three children.
